Intelligent ISO Control – detects movement, prevents blurring
LUMIX is the world's first1 camera that detects when a subject is moving and acts to prevent motion blur.

With most cameras, if a subject moves while you're shooting, you're liable to end up with a blurry photo. Not with LUMIX. Select new LUMIX models feature Intelligent ISO Control, which utilizes subject-motion detection circuitry inside the Venus Engine III image processor to automatically adjust the ISO setting to a preset 400, 800, or 1250 maximum. The higher ISO level lets the camera shoot at a higher shutter speed, preventing motion blur. If the subject is not moving, the ISO setting remains as-is and you capture a beautiful, natural-looking image with minimal noise.

1As of July 19, 2006.

ISO sensitivity and shutter speed are automatically optimized according to the subject's movement.

LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT Lens

Lens with 3x optical zoom and F2.8 brightness (DMC-FX10)

Along with the 3x optical zoom, the FX10 offers extra optical zoom. This feature uses the centre of the CCD to boost zoom power to, as high as 4.1x in 3-megapixel resolution mode.

World's slimmest1 28mm Wide-angle lens (DMC-FX30)

Featuring 5 aspherical lenses with 6 aspherical surfaces, including an extra-high refractive index aspherical lens, made it possible to create a 28mm wide-angle lens with 3.6x optical zoom that is compact enough to fit in a camera with a super-slim 22mm profile. And, we added the extra optical zoom feature, which boosts zoom power to, as high as 5.3x2.

1 For a digital still camera with optical zoom lens compatible with 28mm wide angle as of January 31, 2007.
2 In 3-megapixel resolution mode.

MEGA O.I.S. (Optical image stabilizer) – taking hand-shake out of the picture
Jitter from shaky hands is far and away the biggest single cause of blurry shots. LUMIX cameras help solve this problem with an advanced optical image stabilizing system that we call MEGA O.I.S. This system uses built-in gyrosensors to detect even tiny camera movement and then shifts a lens in the opposite direction to compensate. The system is completely optical — it does not affect the CCD or image processing — so you get sharp, clear images without deterioration. It lets you shoot at shutter speeds up to three steps* slower than what you could use without it. It helps achieve high-quality images in a wide range of shooting conditions such as telephoto, macro or low illumination.

* Varies with the shooting conditions.

Two Image Stabilizing Modes

LUMIX cameras offer two image stabilization modes. In Mode 1, image is corrected continually, so you can see the image clearly on the LCD monitor. Mode 2 corrects the image the moment you press the shutter button, providing maximum compensation in all directions.

Venus Engine III – Superior noise reduction without losing image details
A newly designed noise reduction system detects chromatic noise and luminance noise separately. This lets you capture crisp, high-resolution images with minimal graininess even when shooting at a high ISO setting.

Adding to the beauty with digital processing

The digital correction capability corrects chromatic aberration in telephoto shots and vignetting, which are inherent in every optical lens. This combines with the high optical precision of the Leica DC Lens to achieve even higher image quality.

Super-fast shutter response

Refinements have led to a super-fast response, with a release time lag as low as 0.005 seconds1 and consecutive shooting at up to 3 frames per second2. The Unlimited Consecutive Shooting3 function lets you keep shooting until the SD Memory Card is full.

1 Not including auto-focusing time.
2 Not on some models.
3 The consecutive shooting speed varies depending on the model, shooting conditions and memory card.

Less energy consumption for more shooting fun

Even with advanced functions like MEGA O.I.S. and a large, high-quality LCD monitor, the Venus Engine III uses around 80% less energy than the Venus Engine II. This, plus the use of a longer-lasting battery, greatly increases the number of shots you can take on a single battery charge.

Other functions

Aspect ratios (3 options)
In addition to the conventional 4:3 image format, you can select 16:9 or 3:2 format to suit the shot you're composing. The 16:9 images are perfect for viewing on a wide-screen TV.

* When using a plasma display panel to show 16:9 images recorded on an SD Memory card, the images may not fill the entire screen.

Auto bracketing
This shoots three shots at slightly graduated exposures (+1 to -/+1 in 1/3 EV steps). Pick the best of the three to keep.

Auto focus mode
1-point AF: The camera focuses on the subject in the AF area on the centre of the screen.
1-point high-speed AF: Guarantees fast focus. A centred subject is captured sharply.
Spot AF: This mode keys the focus to a small area within the frame. (select models)
3-point high-speed AF: Prevents the system from mistakenly focusing on the area between two subjects in a horizontal composition. (select models)
5-point AF: Avoids unfocused pictures with the use of five focus points. (select models)
9-point AF: Automatically selects any of nine focus points, and provides sharp focus even when the subject is off-centre or in motion. (select models)
AF Assist lamp: For use in dim lighting, this lamp slightly illuminates the subject to help the AF system focus correctly.

Built-in memory (27MB)
Shoot even when you don’t have a memory card. No need to worry if you memory card is full and you don’t have a spare with you. The camera can record directly onto its built-in internal memory.

Composition guide lines
Displayed in the LCD together with shooting information, these thin horizontal and vertical lines make it easier to compose shots and hold the camera level.

Easy-to-understand GUI
The scene mode and mode position displays on the LCD now use icon symbols instead of text for easier operation and setting. They're also quicker to use, so you have more to time to compose a great shot.

Extra optical zoom
This function provides additional magnification, extending the zoom power by using the centre part of the CCD. When compared with conventional digital zoom functions that directly enlarge the image data, it provides better image quality.

High angle mode
Makes it easier to see the monitor while holding the camera high to shoot over a crowd.

Long lasting battery (DMC-FX10)
With the energy-saving Venus Engine III and a long-lasting battery, the compact FX10 takes shot after shot without running out of power. You can snap as many as 3701 shots on a single battery charge.

1 Based on CIPA standard.

Power LCD
The LCD backlight becomes about 40% brighter, so images are easy to see even in bright sunlight.

Powered by 2 AA batteries
The LS models are powered by 2 AA batteries, which you can buy just about anywhere. If your battery power is running low, just pick up a fresh supply. The Oxyride batteries that come with the camera let you take many more photos than you can with ordinary alkaline batteries.
