High image quality – Venus Engine IV

Venus engine
In the Venus Engine™ LSI, we improved diagonal resolution by 50% over earlier models by extracting luminance signals from all of the pixels — red, green and blue. And the Venus Engine™ IV even goes a step further by adding the luminance signal from the green pixels in areas with horizontal or vertical lines. We have raised horizontal or vertical resolution by about 10%. Images are rendered in fine detail and without visible colour bleeding.

Enhanced subject-motion detection circuitry (Venus Engine™ IV)
The FS models are equipped with the Venus Engine™ IV and the motion detection in the Intelligent ISO control function has been further enhanced to suppress motion blur even more effectively.

Fast response - 0.005 - second shutter release time lag
With a shutter release time lag of as little as 0.005 second*, Lumix® cameras are literally faster than the blink of an eye. This high-speed response makes it easier to capture the perfect expression on a child's face or a spectacular moment in a sports event.

* Not including auto-focusing time. The shutter release time lag varies slightly between models.

Superior noise reduction without losing image details
An advanced noise reduction system detects chromatic noise and luminance noise separately. In addition, the Venus Engine™ IV enhances this detection by effectively reducing highly noticeable low-frequency chromatic noise in advance, while delicately applying noise reduction (NR) processing to detailed areas to prevent the colour bleeding that often happens when NR is used. Together, they let you capture crisp, high-resolution images with minimal graininess even when shooting at a high ISO setting.

 Low energy consumption
The energy-saving Venus Engine IV image-processing engine and our efficient, rechargeable lithium-ion battery work together to extend the shooting time of the FS series, making it possible to take approximately 410 photos (FS4), 400 photos (FS6), 360 photos (FS7/FS42) and 330 photos (FS25), on a single battery charge* despite the large, bright and high-resolution LCD.

* Based on CIPA standard.

Intelligent auto mode (iA)

iA – Intelligent auto technology
Set the dial to iA and let the camera do the rest. When you aim at your subject, iA selects from 5 scene modes (Portrait, Night portrait, Scenery, Night scenery or Macro), that best fits the situation. It also corrects for hand-shake and motion blur, and adjusts the focus and exposure to capture faces perfectly. You get perfect shots, automatically.

 Face detection
The face detection function detects faces anywhere in the frame and automatically chooses the optimal focus and exposure. You can take clear, beautiful portrait shots easily. It detects up to 15 faces in a photo, and automatically readjusts the settings if their positions change. In iA mode, the quick AF function automatically begins focusing without having to press the shutter button halfway, so the shooting process is smooth and easy.

Light detection – Intelligent exposure (DMC-FS25)
The Intelligent exposure function increases the exposure only in under-exposed areas by detecting the brightness level area-by-are in the picture. The camera instantly analyzes the framed image and adjusts the brightness in areas that are too dark due to dim lighting, backlighting or use of the flash. Adjusting the brightness of dark areas this function produces natural images that are close to the way they actually look to the human eye.

Motion detection - Advanced intelligent ISO control
Thanks to Intelligent ISO control, the camera can determine whether or not the subject is moving. If the subject is moving, Intelligent ISO control changes the ISO sensitivity and shutter speed accordingly. You get clear, beautiful shots with no motion blur even when photographing kids who won't stay still.

Scene detection – Intelligent scene selector
When the camera is iA mode, the Intelligent scene selector senses the ambient conditions and automatically selects either Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night portrait or Night scenery mode accordingly. It makes several other advanced image settings too, so you're assured of getting beautiful results every time you shoot, no matter what the scene or subject. With the Intelligent scene selector doing all the complicated work for you, you'll find photography easier than ever to enjoy.

* In iA mode, Night portrait is not identified when the flash is turned off, and Night scenery is not identified when the flash is set to Auto.

 Shake detection
Gyrosensors detect hand-shake and an O.I.S. lens shifts to compensate, preventing hand-shake blur. This system is completely optical – it does not affect the CCD or image processing – so you get sharp, clear images without deterioration. Furthermore, the MEGA O.I.S. system featured in new Lumix® models also distinguishes hand-shake from other kinds of camera movement, improving both detection and correction

Subject detection – AF tracking (DMC-FS25)
Once you focus on your subject, AF tracking automatically tracks it until you press the shutter. When you're taking pictures of an active subject, like children or pets, this function eliminates the need to press the shutter button halfway down repeatedly to readjust the focus. AF tracking makes sure you don't miss those once-in-a-lifetime shooting opportunities.

* For use in iA mode, AF tracking must be selected from the setting menu in advance.

Intelligent LCD functions

9 area AF
The number of AF areas has been increased to nine. The camera automatically determines the most appropriate AF area from the nine points. This ensures accurate focusing even for difficult compositions. You can also select the AF setting from three patterns -- Face AF, 1-area high-speed AF and 1-area AF -- according to your shooting situation. Plus, Quick AF makes sure you won't miss those sudden shooting opportunities.

Intelligent LCD (230,000 dots)
The 2.5" LCD (FS4/FS42/FS6), 2.7" LCD (FS7) and 3.0” LCD (FS25) has a total of 230,000 dots for high resolution. The FS series features an Intelligent LCD function that automatically controls the LCD brightness in 11 steps. Under bright sunlight, the Auto power LCD function increases the backlight brightness in nine steps according to the ambient light intensity. In dimly lit locations, it adjusts the frame rate of live images in 2 steps according to the ambient darkness. At the highest of these 11 steps, the LCD backlight becomes 1.4x (maximum) brighter than normal. This makes both shooting and viewing photos easier and more convenient.

Motion picture mode
The FS series lets you shoot smooth moving pictures at 30 frames/sec, complete with sound, in WVGA (848 x 480 pixels at 30/10 fps) or VGA size (640 x 480 pixels at 30/10 fps).
