BD-Live

Download additional content
BD Live brings a host of new forms of entertainment. For example, Blu-ray players are able to connect directly to the Internet and download additional content from websites to an SD memory card for new forms of enjoyment.

Sharing the information with other BD-Live users
BD-Live allows users to join in quizzes and challenge each other to interactive games based on bonus movie content. Blu-ray Disc™ media offers many new ways to have fun even after you have finished watching the movie.

* Actual functions vary depending on the Blu-ray Disc title.

 One-touch speaker switching*
Using a VIERA TV's remote control, if you call up the VIERA Link™ menu on-screen display and select “Home theatre”, the home theatre turns on and audio playback switches from the TV speakers to the home theatre speakers. If you turn off the receiver, the audio automatically switches back to the TV speakers.

 One-touch volume control*
When the audio is being output from the home theatre, you can adjust the sound volume with the Panasonic flat TV’s remote control. As you operate the sound volume up or down, the home theatre’s sound volume is automatically turned up and down accordingly.

* A Panasonic VIERA Link™ compatible home theatre system is required for this function.

BONUS VIEW™ picture-in-picture
Incorporating the Final Standard Profile of BD-ROM Profile 2, Version 1.1, BONUS VIEW™ picture-in-picture function displays a sub-screen while a movie is playing, and an audio mixing capability that lets you switch the sound between the main screen and sub-screen. Other exciting new, interactive features will also become available and discs will include bonus content such as games together with movies.

* Available features vary depending on the Blu-ray Disc

Enhanced commentary*: BD media goes a big step beyond the kind of audio commentary provided in many DVD movies, such as a director discussing the film. Enhanced commentary makes it possible, for example, for the director or actors to appear in the sub-window (as if they are standing in front of the screen) and point to actors or equipment as they make their comments.

* Depending upon program contents.

Backstage pass function*: This lets you access additional information provided about people, places or things in a BD movie. Just use the remote control to select an element highlighted on-screen, and a sub-window opens with the information. For example, there could be notes about the clothing or accessories an actor is wearing or the restaurant in which a scene is set.

* Depending upon program contents.

Peek behind the animation*: While playing back a movie with dubbed-in voices – for example, a feature-length animation – this feature lets you watch in a sub-window as the voice actors read their parts. You can see the voice actors' gestures and expressions as they speak, giving you an inside look at a whole facet of moviemaking you've never seen before.

* Depending upon program contents.

Audio mixing: The audio mixing function lets you choose which soundtrack to listen to either the one from the content playing in the main window, the one from the sub-window, or both at the same time.

High quality picture

PHL reference chroma processor plus*
PHL reference chroma processor plus is a high quality image-processing technology developed by Panasonic to precisely process each pixel of the Blu-ray Disc™ video signal in the vertical direction. It reproduces colour data with twice the accuracy of conventional systems to keep colours faithful and sharp.

* An HDTV connected with an HDMI cable is required (DMP-B15 only).

High Precision 4:4:4 (All models excluding DMP-B15)
Panasonic's newly developed high-precision 4:4:4 signal technology also processes each pixel of the Blu-ray Disc™ video signal in the horizontal direction, to complement vertical direction processing. When viewed on a high-end VIERA Series TV, that features 4:4:4 signal compatibility, it recreates images with the original film quality to further enhance movie enjoyment.

P4HD (Pixel precision progressive processing for HD) (All models excluding DMP-B15)
P4HD processes more than 15 billion pixels per second and applies the optimal processing to every pixel so that it can render progressive images superbly, expresses motion smoothly and draws crisp diagonal lines.

Deep colour (All models excluding DMP-B15)
Select models with HDMI output are Deep Colour ready, which means they can reproduce images with 12-bit, 4,096-step gradation. You enjoy exceptionally rich, natural-looking colours, with smooth, detailed gradation and minimal colour banding.

* The TV must also be Deep Colour compatible. Other TVs will display 8-bit, 256-step gradation.

1080/24p playback
All models provide 1080/24p output which reproduces movie images from a Blu-ray Disc™ in their original 24p form without conversion. You see movies in the format used in movie theatres.

* 1080/24p supported TV is required. 24p stands for 24 frames per second.

High quality sound

7.1ch Analog out (DMP-BD80)
The 7.1-channel analog signal converted by the new 192kHz D/A converter is transmitted in high quality. This signal can be connected to a receiver that does not support HDMI.

7.1ch Virtual surround (SC-BTX70)
Even though the SC-BTX70 is a 2.1-channel speaker system, Panasonic’s virtual technology lets you enjoy Dolby® TrueHD and DTS™-HD 7.1-channel surround sound. If you don’t have the space to install eight speakers, you can still enjoy life-like sounds that rival 7.1-channel systems.

96kHz Surround re-master (All models excluding DMP-B15)
The 96kHz Sound re-master function enhances the sound quality of CDs and other sources, and even raises the quality of the multi-channel audio data on Blu-ray Discs™ and DVDs. It increases the amount of sound information, to produce highly realistic sounds.

Bamboo diaphragm centre speaker (SC-BTX70/SC-BT200/SC-BT300)
A rigid, low-density bamboo material used in the centre speaker's diaphragms helps achieve a clean, responsive sound. Vocals are pure and clear and dialog is crisp and easy to understand.

HD Audio decode & 7.1ch surround sound
The Blu-ray Disc™ theatre and players feature decoders that are compatible with all of the latest 7.1-channel surround sound formats used by the Blu-ray Disc™ standard.

High clarity sound (DMP-BD80/SC-BTX70/SC-BT200/SC-BT300)
When the analog video terminal is not being used, the electrical current that flows through the analog video circuit can be stopped. This prevents adverse effects on the audio signals and produces clearer sound.

* It is available only for Blu-ray disc™, DVD, CD and SD memory card.

Kelton subwoofer (SC-BTX70/SC-BT200/SC-BT300)
The Kelton subwoofer uses a dual chamber structure, with a drive unit in the rear chamber and a 25 cm Passive Radiator in the front chamber. The drive unit vibrates the front chamber, which causes the large Passive Radiator to vibrate and produce bass sounds. With this structure the front chamber serves as an acoustic filter, so you get a crisp sound with minimal noise. The thinness and high compliance of the passive radiator also help achieve an exceptionally clean, robust and responsive bass performance.

 High quality sound concept
The Kelton subwoofer and bamboo cone speakers, which are Panasonic original technologies, produce extremely life-like sounds, from low to high frequencies.

Precise digital audio
UniPhier®'s advanced processing capability decodes audio signals (Dolby® Digital and DTS™) with high precision and outputs Dolby® TrueHD and DTS™-HD audio in bitstream form without degradation. It also brings re-mastering to the Blu-ray Disc™ for the first time ever.

HD Audio codec bitstream output
All models support HDMI™ V.1.3 specifications, so it can output high bit rate audio signals (Dolby® TrueHD, DTS™-HD) encoded on Blu-ray Discs™ in bitstream. If used with compatible AV amp, the resulting audio is studio master quality sound.

Top mounted speaker unit system (SC-BTX70)
By adding a top mounted speaker unit to the top of the speaker, we succeeded in expanding the listening area. Because the top speaker unit radiates an expansive sound, you enjoy the surround sound effect over a wide area. It’s ideal for watching movies with family or friends.

Networking/connectivity

Networking with SD memory card & USB terminal
Blu-ray Disc™ theatre and player models are equipped with an SD memory card slot and USB terminal (excluding SC-BTX70), so you can immediately view motion images recorded with an HD camcorder in AVCHD format*, and JPEG images taken with a digital still camera. The DMP-BD80 can also play DivX® data recorded onto a USB memory device.

* AVCHD format on USB devices cannot be played back.

Slideshow with Music
Enjoy watching memorable photos recorded onto an SD memory card in a slideshow backed by your favourite CD music and three transition effects.

VIERA CAST™
Because these models are compatible with the VIERA CAST™ function, you can access YouTube, Picasa, and other Internet sites from the special VIERA CAST™ screen. YouTube lets you watch the newest video clips, and Picasa lets you view Web-based photos. You can also check weather and stock information on other sites.

VIERA LINK™ (SC-BTX70/SC-BT200/SC-BT300)

 What is Smart setup?
Smart Setup is a very convenient function that allows anyone to easily set up virtually any type of TV by simply following the on-screen instructions, for greater movie enjoyment with the best possible sound.

Smart setup with on “Select & Listen”
Until now, each setting was extremely complicated. With Smart Setup, optimal settings can be easily made by simply following the TV’s on-screen instructions. When you’re using a VIERA TV with VIERA Link™ compatibility, it’s even more convenient because the TV language and aspect ratio are automatically set.

Wireless rear speaker (SC-BTX70/SC-BT200/SC-BT300)
With a conventional home theatre system there are a lot of wires to worry about. To connect the rear speakers you might have to run the cables under the carpet or along the base of the walls so people don’t trip over them. And all those cables aren’t very pretty to look at. You can solve this problem with the Wireless kit for rear speakers*. The system transmits the audio signals by radio waves, so there’s no need to run cables from the main unit to the rear speakers. The signal also isn’t interrupted by people walking through the room or blocked by furniture.

* The SH-FX70 is required for wireless connection of the SC-BTX70/BT300/BT200/PT670. Transmission distance is limited. Performance will vary depending on room size and other conditions. There is a powered rear speaker receiver with wires to each of the back speakers.

Portability

By simply connecting to an HDTV with an HDMI cable, you can watch Blu-ray Disc™ movies with the same level of full-HD image quality as you get with a component type Blu-ray Disc™ player.

The 8.9 inch wide SVGA screen lets you view movies with much higher image quality than standard definition portable DVD players. With the DMP-B15, your enjoyment of Blu-ray Disc™ movies or various types of SD Memory Card content is not limited to the living room. Enjoy the same high level of entertainment in your bedroom, or even in the car.

Stylish design (DMP-B15)
It stands upright like a photo stand for use, and folds compactly for carrying.

Stylish sliding door (SC-BTX70)
A power sliding door is incorporated in the centre of the main unit. This stylish door allows an iPod to be set in place when opened to the right, and a Blu-ray Disc™ to be set when opened to the left.

Ultra slim and stylish design (SC-BTX70)
A completely new and unique slim design is used. Its stylish silhouette has an elegant and luxurious appearance. A Universal Dock allows an iPod to be stored inside the main unit even when it is connected, and preserves the stylish design.
